Buying Non-KYC bitcoin is one important step on the path to financial sovereignty. It makes your holdings invisible to external parties, allowing you to freely transact online without anyone being able to dox your identity.
Today’s internet is full of potholes that expose your information unwillingly, so non-KYC sats are more important than ever for protecting the average person’s financial activity.
If you’re looking to buy non-KYC bitcoin online, then look no further. RoboSats is one of the best exchanges to make it happen.
In this guide, we’ll break down the process step by step to show you how simply you can start stacking non-KYC bitcoin with RoboSats, and if you want to, mix them to cold storage for maximum privacy.
Here’s What You’ll Need
These are the prerequisites, both hardware and software, you will need to buy non-kyc bitcoin and mix it away to somewhere safe:
- Cold Storage Solution (View the best for self custody)
- Sparrow Wallet (Download from the official website)
- Lightning Wallet (View RoboSats compatible options)
- Tor Browser (Download here, and learn how to get the most out of Tor)
- RoboSats .onion link (Copy the pinned link in the RoboSats X Profile)
- Optional: Telegram (If you want notifications on order updates or other platform changes)
If you’re just wanting to buy non-KYC sats without mixing, then you can skip the Sparrow Wallet download and use whichever wallet you’d like to receive your non-KYC sats. And always be sure to use a fresh address that’s not linked to previously KYC’d transactions.
1. Setting Up Your Self Custody
Before buying non-KYC bitcoin, ensure that you have a safe storage solution to keep it after taking it off of exchanges.
If you haven’t bought or built yourself a hardware wallet yet, then be sure to choose one that suits your needs. We’ve covered 10 of the leading Bitcoin-only hardware wallets to make that decision easier for you.
2. Setting Up Your Sparrow Wallet
Next thing you’ll need is Sparrow Wallet, a desktop wallet that offers all sorts of helpful privacy features for your bitcoin. You’ll use one of them yourself as part of this guide to maximize your bitcoin’s privacy.
You can read up on how to set up a new wallet with Sparrow here if you haven’t done so before.
After installing and opening the wallet, you’ll have to generate a new wallet, which we’ll be using as a burner wallet to CoinJoin your bitcoin with. Doing so will throw off any last trace linking that bitcoin to your identity.
3. Setting Up Your Lightning Wallet
Lastly, you’ll need to download a Lightning wallet to use for the escrow mechanism on RoboSats. In order to prevent one-sided cancellations of orders or other misbehavior, RoboSats requires you to post a small bit of collateral with each purchase. But assuming you’re just trying to buy non-KYC bitcoin as intended, you shouldn’t run into any issues.
There are plenty of great Lightning wallets to choose from. For this tutorial, I’ll go with Muun wallet. Refer to the RoboSats docs for a comprehensive list of which Lightning wallets are compatible with the platform.
4. Booting Up RoboSats
Open up Tor, and once you’ve connected, paste the .onion link you copied, and you should see the homepage of RoboSats appear after loading.
RoboSats generates avatars for its users to keep transactions anonymous between parties. The robots give your avatar a unique visual identifier.
You can either recover an existing robot or start fresh with a new one. Since it’s probably your first time using the platform, go ahead and click “Start” to create a new robot.
Now click “Generate Token”. RoboSats will provide a token (essentially a string of text) that you need to keep somewhere safe. You won’t lose any money by losing your token, but you will lose access to that specific RoboSats identity and you’ll have to create a new one.
Here you’ll see your robot identity. Now we can continue on to browse different non-KYC Bitcoin offers or create one of our own.
If you click “Offers”, you’ll be able to see all the current live orders and payment methods available.
Buying Non-KYC Bitcoin With RoboSats
Now that you’re familiar with RoboSats, let’s learn how to convert your fiat into clean non-KYC bitcoin. We’ll be using Amazon gift cards as the payment rails for this tutorial, but RoboSats offers plenty of ways to exchange fiat for non-KYC bitcoin.
1. Creating An Amazon Gift Card Order
A straightforward way to take fiat from your bank account and buy non-KYC bitcoin with it is simply through buying Amazon gift cards at your local store or online.
If you’re just concerned with the mere privacy of your purchases over total anonymity (if you’re okay with having authorities know you bought bitcoin), then the Fold app (affiliate) is another great option for buying Amazon gift cards.
You can facilitate the deal over RoboSats and send the Amazon gift card digitally, using a mailing service to ship it, or meeting up locally for a hand-to-hand exchange. However you choose to make the trade, using RoboSats for the deal ensures that each party behaves fairly. Of course, meeting in person with a stranger or relying on a mailing service may come with its own set of risks, so sending an e-gift card digitally is the simplest method.
If you first want to check existing orders to see if anyone accepts Amazon gift cards as payment, head to Orders and modify your search filters to BUY using your local currency and Amazon Gift Card as the payment method:
To create an order yourself, click the blue “Create” button or select the bottom tab. Adjust the order parameters to your liking. I’ll buy 100 USD with an Amazon gift card and set a 3% premium over market rate for this tutorial, but you may have to adjust higher to attract offers.
Once you are happy with the order details, click “Create Order”.
2. Funding The Lightning Escrow
At this point, you’ll see a Lightning QR invoice for a few thousand sats. RoboSats implements this Lightning escrow service to ensure that each party upholds their end of the deal and to prevent bad behavior from each party.
With your Lightning wallet, simply scan the QR code to pay the invoice. Once the trade is complete, RoboSats will automatically release the escrow funds back to your Lightning wallet.
Now that you’ve funded the escrow, it’s time to wait for someone to jump on the order and accept it.
3. Finalizing Payment Details
Once somebody takes the order, the next step will be to enter your payout information.
RoboSats give you the ability to receive in either Lightning or On-chain. For this tutorial, I’ll go with On-chain.
You’ll notice a Swap fee, as well as a Mining fee. The Swap fee is what you’ll have to pay for RoboSats to exchange the BTC from Lightning to On-chain, and the Mining fee is what miners collect based on network congestion at the time.
Below these fees is the total amount of sats you’ll receive after all fees, and the Bitcoin Address box is where you’ll input your receive address.
This is where Sparrow first comes into play for mixing. Again, if you prefer not to mix, then feel free to paste any address you’d like here as long as its free of any previous KYC transactions.
Open up Sparrow and create a new wallet. This wallet will be used as a burner wallet for mixing later on.
Click “Receive” and copy the address in Sparrow, then paste it into the “Bitcoin Address” box on the RoboSats interface.
4. Connecting With The Seller
All that’s left is to purchase your Amazon gift card and connect with the seller to communicate the details. RoboSats creates a chat channel to enable this.
The seller will lock the BTC in an Escrow while you, the buyer, give the seller the necessary information to redeem the payment from you.
So, I’m going to:
- Purchase the Amazon gift card
- Send the card to myself to get the credentials to redeem the card
- Communicate with the seller to get delivery details from them
- Send the credential information their way.
You can purchase an e-gift card from Amazon and set the preferences to your liking. Be sure to include an email address to receive information about the card credentials.
Once ensuring that the other party has the proper information and the gift card is active, then hit “Confirm 100 USD sent”. Doing so will prompt the other party to confirm that they have properly received payment. Once both parties confirm, the transaction finalizes.
And here’s what you should see upon confirmation of the trade:
And that’s it! Buying non-KYC bitcoin is a relatively straightforward once you have the preliminary tools in place, and it’s only getting easier with time as the technology improves.
5. Mixing & Sending To Cold Storage
Check your Sparrow Wallet to ensure that the sats made it to your Sparrow burner wallet.
I see the unconfirmed balance there, so it should arrive after confirming on the ledger.
From here, you can use Sparrow’s CoinJoin feature to mix your bitcoin and automatically route the mixed non-KYC bitcoin to your cold storage address.
Check out our step-by-step guide to pick up from right where you left off here.
Final Thoughts
Now that you’ve learned how to buy non-KYC bitcoin with RoboSats, stacking sats privately should come that much easier.
Keep in mind that once you have non-KYC bitcoin, you have a responsibility to keep them private. Sending non-KYC bitcoin to a KYC exchange is a surefire way to reverse all the effort you just put in to getting those sats.
Using bitcoin anonymously or just privately requires a comprehensive approach. Be sure to understand where your privacy gaps lie and take the time to fix them for maximum financial sovereignty.
